Edmonton
Home to almost a million residents, Edmonton is a bustling northern metropolis. Combining the urban excitement with festivals, shopping, dining, and many other attractions such as our amazing River Valley (the largest park in North America) makes Edmonton an ideal vacation destination. As Canada’s Festival City, Edmonton hosts over thirty annual festivals throughout the year—no matter when you visit, you’ll be sure to catch something special. From the summertime blitz of music, theatre and culture festivals to Canadian Finals Rodeo in the fall and the annual Winter Light festival, the celebrations never cease.
Even if you’re not going to festivals, you’ll find much to take in from Edmonton’s bustling arts and culture scene. From Shakespeare and chamber music to experimental jazz and DJs, Edmonton’s music scene is lively and diverse. We’re also home to the more theatres per capita than anywhere else in Canada. And from the breadth of Art Gallery of Alberta’s international and provincial collection to the artist-run Latitude 53 and the 124 Street Gallery Walk, art lovers will also be busy. September's major festival is the growing Edmonton International Film Festival. Be sure to take in some of the incredible art on film available during this time all across the city.
Use Edmonton as your base for exploring all that the northern Alberta outdoors has to offer! Without having to repack your bags, you can day trip to rich historical sites, exceptional wildlife, and world-class outdoor recreational facilities—including over seventy golf courses! If you stay in town, you can forget that you’re in a city at all by spending some time in the lush greenery of Edmonton’s river valley. There you’ll find the Valley Zoo and the botanical landmark of the Muttart Conservatory’s four glass pyramids. The fun and attractions go on and on!
For many visitors, Edmonton is a surprising delight. We're sure you'll feel the same way.
